About the presenter
Kris Tynan MNZM is a highly respected health and fitness professional with a passion for empowering individuals living with long-term conditions to stay active and well. Based in Christchurch, Kris has played a leading role in shaping the exercise industry in Aotearoa, particularly in the area of clinical and functional fitness for older adults.
She is the co-founder of Exercise as Medicine New Zealand, a charitable initiative dedicated to improving health outcomes through movement. Her expertise has guided the creation of several widely-used online training courses for exercise professionals, covering topics such as diabetes, obesity, joint and bone health, ageing, and cancer recovery.
Kris is the author of Leading Older Adults in Functional Fitness Activity and Interactive Instructor, two practical resources for group fitness leaders. She also serves as the national trainer for Prost-FIT, a pioneering programme supporting men with prostate cancer.
Her contributions have been recognised nationally—she received ExerciseNZ’s Outstanding Contribution Award in 2012 and was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in 2024 for her services to exercise for older adults and people with long-term conditions. A sought-after speaker at industry events, Kris continues to inspire with her dedication, innovation, and commitment to inclusive exercise.

About the presenter
With over two decades of experience in the Pilates industry, Katie Swift brings a deep passion for movement, education, and innovation to her work. Since 2020, she has served as Co-Director and Programme Developer at The Method NZ, where she has designed and implemented world-class training programmes that support fitness professionals in achieving excellence. Her role includes curriculum development, mentoring, and fostering a collaborative environment within the Pilates community.
Katie’s career has been enriched by extensive international experience, beginning in London and continuing across New Zealand and Australia. She has held roles as a teacher trainer for both Xtend Barre and The Method NZ, delivering comprehensive training programmes, including signature methods and continuing education, to empower instructors to inspire and support their clients.
In 2023, Katie was honoured as a finalist for Educator of the Year at the New Zealand Exercise Industry Awards. Her dedication to Pilates is further reflected in the recognition of her studio, Katie Swift Pilates & Barre, which was named one of Auckland’s top Pilates studios by The Denizen magazine in both 2021 and 2023. Her expertise has also been featured on The AM Show and several podcasts.
Katie holds certifications in Pilates and Barre, with additional specialisations in pre- and post-natal movement and pelvic floor-safe exercise, as a registered practitioner—an area she is particularly passionate about following the birth of her two children. She is also a certified Fascia Movement Specialist and has completed Antony Lo’s The Female Athlete course in 2023. In 2024, she added a Personal Trainer qualification to her credentials.
